Description
Add a touch of Celtic mystery to your harp repertoire with this fantasy on the traditional Irish melody “Columcille.” Widely known through the hymn text “No Wind at the Window,” this melody carries that fearful wonder of the annunciation and nativity.
Crafted for beginner to intermediate harpists, Anna’s arrangement overlaps easy three-finger shape chords into a rich rhythmic texture—simple to play, yet beautifully resonant. The Celtic minor-key color makes it a refreshing contrast to your familiar Christmas selections. Sounding far more complex than it is, this arrangement helps you capture your audience from the first measure.
Pick this up to bring variety to your Christmas season programs, or play it any time of year to bring that unmistakable Celtic atmosphere to services, concerts, students, fairs or your own quiet reflective moments.
- Intermediate
- Key of A minor (C)
- 3 minutes
- No Lever changes (1 optional pedal change for pedal harps)
I first encountered this song visiting a different church and opening a Mennonite hymnal. I remember being sideswiped by its luminous mystery. My first thought was it seemed far to violent for the Mennonites even thought it’s straight out of Luke. Those lyrics that are still under copyright but it was the melody that hummed in my brain ever since. It has that relentless Celtic rhythm, even frisson of fear. The tune highlights Mary’s bravery at the annunciation when she replies to the angel, “Tell God I say yes.”
