Ducking between raindrops–this is what I played on the harp in the month of April!??
April showers inspired my repertoire from Rainy Days and Mondays to old movie songs like April Love and Singin’ in the Rain.
I slipped in a harp original by Kim Robertson titled Rain. I grew up playing Kim Robertson’s books so when I met her at a conference, I got mine autographed! Then we hopped back to an earlier composition, Vivaldi’s Spring, arranged by one of my favorite harpist, Deborah Friou. It’s an easy arrangement bursting with brightness!
Since the month started with Easter, I got to play my other favorite baroque composer Bach with pieces like O Sacred Head Now Wounded and filled out with favorites like
The techniques used for arranging classical music are the same I used to arrange pop favorites like Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, (SHEET MUSIC HERE). It’s the anniversary of my version for both lever and pedal harp! I am now doing what I admired Robertson and Friou doing when I was a kid!
To bring back the sun after all the showers, I jumped back to the Beatles, Here Comes the Sun then glissed my way into Somewhere Over the Rainbow arranged by Paul Baker–this is straight up my favorite harp arrangement of all time–my goal is to make music this harp-istic.
April wedding requests included Latin-inspired like Amor Eterno, to a country/rock wedding filled with Kane Brown and Luke Combs, Elvis, Queen. And in the middle, they asked me to play Shaboozey! That was a fun time!
You can ear the video version or listen to the music on my YouTube Channel! Thanks for listening along this month and stay tuned for May! What pieces would you love to hear next?
