Easter weekend is the occasion for some of my favorite music for the whole year! This year, I’m recording three mini concerts for Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, sharing some of the most often requested or most moving easter songs so click the link and enjoy!
I started with the arrangements of Bach’s O Sacred Head Now Wounded, one of the songs I recorded on my first CD The Sounding Joy. The lyrics attributed to Bernard of Clairvox Marvel that the Godhead would bother about us, submit to our suffering “all for sinner’s gain.” You can hear the recording on my CD on iTunes or Spotify.
That God would choose this way of suffering is beautifully captured in this next song, Via Dolorosa–“He chose to walk this road out of his love for you and me.”
This level of love just boggles the mind, making us ask, How Deep The Father’s Love For Us? This is the wonder of Good Friday—at a specific time at a specific location in Israel, God demonstrated his love to us.
It’s this tactile quality to the gospel that makes me reecho the words of Fanny Crosby “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross,” not just for Easter but all year long.
